Blossom Vegan is a Bay Area-style vegan food pit-stop in Pleasanton, California.
Established in 2014, Blossom Vegan is the second restaurant owned by the same family as “Golden Lotus” in Downtown Oakland. A fully vegan menu comprising family recipes and vegan takes on traditional Southeast Asian cuisine; everything is made with heart and without compromising morals. Their website states their menu is “Inspired by the diverse culinary landscapes of Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and beyond, our Pan-Asian-style menu is a celebration of the region’s cultural diversity.“
Blossom Vegan has an extensive menu complete with tasty apps and desserts. Unfortunately, I was only able to stop in for a short visit on my way to a work event in the Bay, so I will definitely make a point of returning to try more of their delicious vegan offerings! I was satisfied with the items I tried, however, and have been thinking of them ever since!
I ordered the “Drumsticks” as my snacky starter, the “Sweet Orange” as my entrée, along with lemonade and a side of white rice. (FYI, entrées do not come with rice, but white rice can be added as a side for $3)
The Drumsticks app comes with 3 faux legs, each cut in half to make 6 shareable portions, and served with a plum sauce. I LOVE getting faux drumsticks anytime I have the opportunity, and these are tasty! The skin is crispy, crunchy, and salty, and the “meat” is tender and flaky without being too juicy. They have edible bones made of bamboo shoots, but I don’t like to eat that part, so I remove it. The plum dipping sauce is a sweet addition that makes for the perfect pairing of sweet and salty.
My entrée, Sweet Orange, is served in a large portion, great for family-style dining. The soy protein used to mimic chicken comes in small, battered balls that are crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. The protein is tossed in a sweet and tangy sauce and coated in sesame seeds. The sauce is more sweet-forward than sour, but has an unmistakable citrus tang.
Blossom Vegan is located just off Interstate 580, near shopping centers and gas stations, making for the perfect pit stop on the way to or from the Bay. Open Tuesdays-Sundays, 11 AM-8 PM. Stop in for lunch, dinner, anything in between, or even order to-go. I plan to order ahead and take it home on my next venture, as I would like to try a lot more of the menu!
I am sure you’ve been to Blossom Vegan! If so, what did you try? I am looking for ideas!
