A Vegan + Gluten-Free S’mores Kit!
Summer is here, and that means outdoor gatherings and less cooking in the kitchen. For some, this includes camping (which you can count me out of) and the seasonal treat, s’mores (yes, please).
Three allergy-conscious brands teamed up to deliver a delicious twist on s’mores with a kit available only at Target. The kit comes with the fixings for 8 shareable s’mores for $14.99, complete with: 8 Dandies Vegan Marshmallows, 8 UNREAL Snacks Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, and 18 Partake Foods Classic Graham Crackers (that’s 2 extra in case any break, or you want a double-decker).
I LOVE this concept of a vegan and gluten-free s’mores kit and hope it expands to more retailers. This s’mores kit is perfect for a camping trip add-on, road-trip snacking, or BBQ potluck contribution. It’s also great for those of us who may be the only ones in the group with dietary restrictions, since we can easily place each piece in airtight containers to grab throughout the season. (I have eaten most of mine alone, though)
I bought the kit to taste-test, and am happy to report that these s’mores are mouthwatering and crave-worthy. They’re the perfect combo of sweet and salty. The graham crackers are subtly sweet and crumbly, the peanut butter is buttery and rich, the marshmallow is pillowy and sticky, and the dark chocolate is balanced and smooth without being overly decadent.
S’mores, originally coined “Some-mores,” were created in the 1920’s by a woman aptly called “Cookie,” who introduced the mashup to the Girl Scouts. These days, you don’t need a campfire to whip up this dessert, and according to the package, they’re just as enjoyable without any added heat. In fact, this kit lists several ways to heat up a s’more without a campfire, including the oven, microwave, air fryer, grill, and even candlelight. I am keen on the microwave option, but any vegan s’more is a s’more I’ll eat!
As far as I am aware, the vegan and gluten-free s’mores kit is currently only available at Target. All 3 pieces are now also available individually at most Target stores. Dandies has long been one of the few vegan marshmallow brands around, and they even make marshmallow cream (find my review here)! All Partake cookies are vegan and gluten-free, and most UNREAL Food’s dark chocolate candy is vegan. See below for a full list of UNREAL’s vegan varieties and the ingredient list for the s’mores kit.
