On Saturdays, a hidden gem is unveiled in Modesto and surrounding areas: Gems made by Rubie.

Gems by Rubie are homemade, organic, and vegan cookies made in a variety of flavors including; Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Snickerdoodle, Oatmeal, and even Butter Cookies with Icing in kits you can DIY at home!

I opted for the “variety pack” which generally contains 3 different flavors. My variety included; Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle, and Rocky Road.

The Rocky Road cookie was my absolute favorite, as I am a big fan of desserts that are made to taste like other deserts! The Rocky Road is a double chocolate chip cookie with vegan-friendly marshmallows and whole almonds. The vegan marshmallows are Danides brand, and the tops are perfectly toasted.

The Chocolate Chip and Snickerdoodle cookies are both soft without being crumbly, and ever-so buttery. Chocolate Chip cookies are a staple, but Snickerdoodle cookies were always what my mother kept stocked in the cookie jar. Both instantly provide nostalgia, as each bite transports me to childhood.

Rubie is a vegan baker from Stockton, who is active in the vegan pop-ups held in the area. On Saturdays she visits Modesto (and it’s surrounding areas) to deliver her delicious Gems directly to your doorstep. Not local? Gems are available for shipping as well!
