Growing brand Funky Mello is whipping up a dessert that is more than just a dip- it’s a vibe.

Marshallow cream is generally off-limits to plant-based consumers as it contains hidden animal ingredient- gelatin. However, Funky Mello has created the world’s first refrigerated, plant-based marshmallow creme using what they call “liquid gold”. Funky Mello’s creamy base is made of chickpea aquafaba- the liquid reminents of cooked legumes. It is starchy, so when whipped it creates a fluffy texture like egg whites, making the perfect consistency for a marshallow dip.

Funky Mello is vegan, guten-free, corn-free, soy-free, nut-free, dairy-free, non-GMO, and contains no artificial colors. This makes it perfect for school snacking, and sharing with any and everyone (but you won’t want to). I recently placed an order from their website for an assortment of cremes. Funky Mello sent me some freebies as well, so in all I tried the Vanilla, Strawberry, Cookies ‘n’ Cream, Hazelnut, and Vanilla Chai Marshmallow Cremes.

Funky Mello Marshmallow Creme is sticky, creamy, sweet, and utterly addicting. You can eat it with fruit, cookies, pretzels, on s’mores, in dessert recipes, coffee and cocoa, and as toppings for all sweet treats. I used my Funky Mellow to create a ‘Sweets Board’ for Galentine’s Day, but also tried them in cocoa, iced coffee, “fluffernutters”, and in Funky Mello’s trifle dessert jars. My favorites are definielty the Vanilla and Cookies ‘n’ Cream, but all are delcious and have their own unique and perfect pairings.

The Strawberry tastes like a taffy with its mix of vanilla and tart berry flavors. Cookies N Cream is like a dip version of an “Oreo Dream Bar” (which is just a Cookie version of a Rice Crispy Treat) and is a balance of sweet vanilla and rich cocoa cookie crumbles. Hazelnut is a bold creme that is carmely and nutty, making it the perfect addition to cocoa and coffee (I found it to be the best in dark roast iced coffee). Vanilla Chai was also a creme I used in hot cocoa for a rich and spicy vanilla based mix-in. The OG Vanilla flavor is what I find the most delectable- it’s nostalgic and the perfect addition to any treat or snack, as well as by the spooful.
