“When life gives you peppers- make salsa!”
This Superbowl Sunday I ordered a “Salsa Flight” from One Hot Mama’s Salsa to share with the family as we watch the most expensive commercials of the year. The flight came with 7 flavors- yes, SEVEN! They are; Verde (the #1 selling), Mild, Spicy OG (her first-ever flavor), Mama’s Mayhem, Spicy Avocado, Cabbage, and Black Bean & Corn.
While the game is later, I dived in to taste them all in advance- you know, quality control. All of One Hot Mama’s Salsa are tolerable for my palate aside from “Mama’s Mayhem”. While “Mama’s Mayhem” is absolutely too spicy for me, it is probably only regular spicy to most. (My grandma will LOVE it.) My favorite is and has been the “Black Bean and Corn”, which is odd because if you know me you know I do not like corn. However, the balance of flavors makes the corn not only tolerable but delicious! I also am a big fan of the “Cabbage Salsa”. It’s light and crunchy and definitely different. I enjoyed the “OG” and “Verde” for a hit of heat, and the “Mild” is a deliciously smooth blend of tomatoes and spices I could eat on anything. Lastly the “Spicy Avocado” probably rounds out my top 3, as it is creamy and not too spicy with the consistency of crema.
One Hot Mama’s Salsa slogan is “When life gives you peppers- make salsa!” and it perfectly encapsulates her story. One Hot Mama’s Salsa was a creation born during the pandemic after One Hot Mama, aka Jessica, caught COVID and due to persisting health issues, had to leave her job as a nurse and pursue something new. Her family and friends encouraged her to take her salsa-making hobby to the next level and create a business. Her passion and experience in the kitchen are ever-present in every batch of salsa- whether it be fresh or canned. Jessica is truly excelling at her new venture and was awarded “2023 Woman of the Year” by the Modesto Chamber of Commerce to recognize her ongoing achievements.
One Hot Mama’s Salsa is vegan and preservative-free. Even her canned salsas use lemon juice to keep them fresh for up to 18 months. She creates all 7 flavors herself, and even offers exclusive holiday varieties like “Pumpkin” which sold out after her first batch! Follow One Hot Mama’s Salsa on Instagram @one_hot_mamas_salsa and find her at onehotmamassalsa.com to keep up with her pop-ups and upcoming events. Rumor has it- she is in the process of developing hot sauce too! I for one am so excited to continue to support Jessica and follow her journey as a true Salsa Maven.
