Oh hey Walmart, we see you!
I’m so stoked on this new line of plant-based products from Walmart’s store brand “Great Value”. I was able to locate the frozen “Original Veggie Burger”, “Chipotle Black Bean Veggie Burger”, and the “Chick’n Tenders”.
The Original Veggie Burger is satisfying and fits perfectly on Dave’s Killer Bread Buns. The original veggie patty is more like a traditional faux beef burger and in my opinion, is similar to Beyond and Lightlife brands (just a little smaller in size). The burger even has a reddish color and “bleeds” like the leading brands. My favorite, however, was the Chipotle Black Bean Burger. This was a nice variation on veggie burgers, with the inclusion of whole beans and veggies in the patty. The flavor of chipotle spice is mild enough that even my sissy palate can enjoy the heat. I would definitely recommend trying this patty on a breakfast sandwich as well!
Great Value’s Chik’n Tenders are very different from the competitors on the market, and I am here for it. The vegan tenders are a lot larger than the others in the freezer section, and the tender is thinner. The texture and flavor is similar to other fake chicken strips, but the crispy breading is not loose or crumbly. I am pleased to have a larger vegan tender on the market!
Walmart Stores are also rolling out “Chick’n Veggie Burger” Patties, but I did not find them at my location. Additionally, Walmart is even releasing their very own Plant-Based Cheese Style Shreds! This is super new and has not made its way to the Central Valley yet, but soon we will also have Great Value Plant Based Mozzarella, Cheddar, and Blended Shreds! I love seeing big box stores roll out their own brand of vegan-friendly products, as it really shows the wave the plant-based movement is making in the food industry.
Which have you tried, or are you adding to your cart next trip? I can’t wait to try their shreds!
