Ok Poke, I’m obsessed with Poke Bowls and I gotta eat em all!
It wouldn’t be a lie if I told you I had this for lunch two days in a row, just a tad embarrassing…but have you tried it?!
A native dish of Hawaii, “Poke” is Hawaiian for “to slice” or “to cut crosswise into pieces”. That’s why each piece of tofu and veggies are perfectly bite-sized! If you recall from an earlier post, one of my favorite foods is sushi. While Poke Bowls are Hawaiian, many of the ingredients are the same as in a sushi roll, but in a bowl! At Poke Bowl you first choose your bowl size; Regular or Large (I found I had leftovers with the large size, even though I typically overeat). You can customize your bowl by selecting your Base, Protein, Mix and Toppings. It is important to note that while the current vegan protein option is Organic Tofu, all of their “bases” are vegan friendly!
My bowl was packed with protein, and the mix of veggies and sauce were crisp and bright in flavor. I opted for a mixed base of Sushi Rice and Mixed Greens. My protein was of course the Organic Tofu, my “mix” included; Cucumber, Tomato, Green Pepper, White Onion and Sesame Oil. The Ponzu Sauce is their vegan option, and is a citrus and soy base. Lastly, I topped my bowl with; Seaweed Salad, Edamame, Green Onion and Avocado. The veggies and edamame provide a nice crunch, to balance the soft texture of the tofu and firm rice. I can not recommend this enough!
Poke Bowl is currently available for pick-up and delivery via GrubHub, UberEats, and Postmates . They have both a Mchenry and Pelendale location. Let me know if you’ve tried it, or plan to! Poke-Dokey?
