Papa Murphy’s Dairy Free
Last year Papa Murphy’s Pizza offered Violife brand dairy-free cheese in limited regions across the US. It was apparently a hit because big Papa is now offering dairy-free cheese as an option on ANY of their traditional ‘zas and even “Create Your Own” Take-N-Bake Pizzas!
Papa Murphy’s raves about their new option stating: “Plant-based and lactose-free, our dairy-free cheese makes super melty, cheesy pizzas. Now the whole family can finally enjoy pizza night together!” I am stoked on this new offering and am thrilled another major chain is adding dairy-free and plant-based to their menu. I had to get my tastebuds on some IMMEDIATELY!
I picked up one Dairy-Free Cheese Mini-Murph and one Dairy-Free Cheese Garden Veggie Pizza. Papa Murphy’s Original and Thin Crust are vegan-friendly, but I went with Original for both my pies. After baking, there was little to no gumline on the pizza, where the sauce and melty cheese meet the crust. This is a sign of a perfectly prepared pie, as the crust is not soggy from the heavier sauce and cheese layers. The cheese melts surprisingly well and has a nutty and mildly sour flavor typical of mozzarella cheese. I overdid it with the pizza sauce on my Mini Murph, but overall I was impressed with the dairy-free cheese and can definitely foresee myself ordering this again and again.
I have been a fan of Papa Murphy’s Take-n-Bake Pizza forever, as with take-n-bake you can easily order with no cheese and then top with your own at home before baking (with love at 425 degrees). The addition of dairy-free cheese not only makes our lives easier, but dairy-free as a commonplace menu option can make switching to a vegan or plant-based diet that much simpler for those on the fence.
