It’s basic witch season!
Target now has its very own brand of vegan whipped cream, and its first flavor is ripe for fall. I picked up several bottles of the new Non-Dairy Favorite Day Pumpkin Spice Whipped Oat Topping this week as soon as I found out about its release. Favorite Day is the newest in-store brand for Target bringing us seasonal treats, and now that I know vegan whipped cream is on the table, I can’t wait to see what rolls in next.
To celebrate the release of this new whip, I brewed up my go-to Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe. This is a modified recipe of one PETA posted years ago, and since Starbucks has yet to release a vegan PSL, I have been drinking this for many years. Some may gaff at my PSL amid August, but those of us obsessed with spooky season know the unofficial start of Halloween begins July 5th and with the recent Hurriquake weather, it feels more like Autumn. I list the recipe for the Pumpkin Spice Latte at the end of this post, in addition to the ingredients in the oat whip topping.
The Favorite Day Non-Dairy Pumpkin Spice Whipped Oat Topping is super creamy and the can sprays easily. I found the flavor to be reminiscent of a cool whip topped pumpkin pie. The pumpkin spice is subtle, but ever present, adding just a touch of holiday whimsy to whatever you serve it atop. I think my PSL is the perfect fit, but hot cocoa, pumpkin cheesecake, or even a pudding would be delicious! I can’t wait to share this with family come the holidays! My cans’ expiration aren’t until December, so you too have time to stock up before the limited release is sold out.
I found my Favorite Day Non-Dairy Pumpkin Spice Whipped Oat Topping at one of my local Target stores. Be sure to check online or in the Target app to ensure the store you are heading to has it in stock, as last I checked only the Sisk Rd location in Modesto had it. Happy hunting and cheers witches!
Vegan and Dairy-Free Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe (single serving):
Ingredients:
1 Cup Dairy-Free Milk (I used Traget brand Barista Oat Milk)
2 Tbs Dairy-Free Creamer (I used Starbucks Non-Dairy Pumpkin Spice Creamer)
2 Tbs Pumpkin Puree
1-2 Tbs Maple Syrup (or agave, depending on how sweet you like it)
1/2 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice (plus a sprinkle for topping)
1 tsp or serving of instant espresso (or coffee, I used Cafe Bustelo)
Favorite Day Non-Dairy Pumpkin Spice Whipped Oat Topping
Directions:
1. Steam the non-dairy milk, creamer, and pumpkin over medium heat.
2. Once the pumpkin begins to break down, add maple syrup, spice, and instant espresso. Set heat to low and let the brew simmer.
3. Use an emersion blender to thoroughly mix and froth. If you do not have an emersion blender, mix until it bubbles and becomes frothy.
4. Remove from heat, pour into a mug, and top with whip and spice.
