Abbot’s Plant-rich Foods are making whole-food eating easy and truly plant-based.
Formerly “Abbot’s Butcher”, Abbot’s (not to be confused with the elementary) is making plant-based meats with none of the additives or artificial ingredients typically found in vegan substitutes. The founder of Abbot’s, Kerry Song, when diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, found that many of her favorite vegan products contained ingredients no longer suitable for her diet. This led to the creation of Abbot’s, named after the street where Kerry was living when the company began. Abbot’s is vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, non-GMO, and the first plant-based meat approved by Whole30. Made from a combination of pea protein, water, and spices, Abbot’s proves that whole-food, plant-based eating is not only simple and beneficial, but tasty too. Looking for the ingredients? Head to the bottom of this post.
Abbot’s reached out to ask if I’d like to try some of their products and sent me the Plant-rich “Chorizo”, Ground “Beef”, and Chopped Chick’n. So far, I have tried both the Chorizo and Ground “Beef”, and am a fan of both. I served the Abbot’s “Chorizo” with a tofu scramble, along with fried potatoes, tomatoes, and avocado. The Chorizo has a kick of heat, but it is mild enough for me to enjoy. It’s mouthwatering and not oily or greasy like other vegan chorizos. I like that it is crumbly and not in a tube, making for mess-free cooking. I used the Ground “Beef” in a Bolognese recipe sent from Abbot’s. They included RAO’s Homemade Marinara and Jovial Pasta Gluten-Free Mafalda to get me started, so it was as simple as following the simplified version of their Bolognese recipe with optional add-ins and toppings. Abbot’s Ground “Beef” is a solid dupe without being oily or overly meaty. It’s savory, and the crumbles make for a tasty texture that would be great in tacos or burrito bowls.
You can find Abbot’s locally in stores like Sprouts, Target, and Safeway. It is also available at Whole Foods and many other natural foods stores, as well as in online retailers. Aside from the products I received, Abbot’s makes a variety of burgers for grilling season. Thanks again, Abbot’s for sending me these to try!
