Meet me at Bauhaus!
Bauhaus is a ‘Tapas Bar’ in Modesto, with an ever-evolving menu. Tapas means “small plates” (but every time I say it, people think I’m saying “topless bar”). Wednesday through Saturday, you will find tapas, and on Sunday, it’s brunch. However, at Bauhaus, there are always vegan options, even at pop-ups! Want the scoop on brunch? Find my past review here.
Last week, I met up with my bestie at Bauhaus, and we shared a variety of small plates. The vegan menu options are marked with an asterisk, as a handful of the menu can be made vegan. We tried almost all of them, including: Bruschetta (sans cheese), Patatas Bravas (seasoned and sauced portatoes), Asparagus (topped with aioli), Mushroom Ajillo (mushrooms in a savory and tangy garlic and chili oil served with bread), and ended with a Fried PB&J (a fried pastry tart filled with jam and peanut butter and topped with powdered sugar). I fasted to make sure I could try it all, and it was well worth it. I love how many vegetable dishes Bauhaus serves, and in creative ways, which are both satisfying and craveable. And that Fried PB&J? It is the perfect comfort food to end the meal, or stop in to snack on.
The vibe of Bauhaus is intimate and rustic, with nestled wall and bar seating. For brunch, I prefer the expanded seating outdoors, which is often accompanied by live music. The location is tucked away in an older building off Downey and Scenic, and if you don’t know where to look, you might miss it!
You may be familiar with Chef Tye Bauer from ‘Bauer’s 66 1/2’ before it relocated to ‘Bauer’s Downtown’, and ultimately became ‘Bauer’s by Sazon por Tradicion’ under new ownership. ‘Bauer’s 66 1/2’ was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri in 2016 (Season 24, Ep 8)! If you haven’t visited the Bauhaus yet, here is your sign!
