Vego chocolate started as many vegan brands do, with a demand for a high-quality vegan product in an underserved market. What started as a popular vegan restaurant in Berlin shifted to focus on the Vego candy bar line that was founded in 2010 and developed by Italian chocolatiers. Vego chocolate is vegan, Fair Trade Certified, made with compostable, eco-friendly packaging, contains zero palm oil, and is primarily organic.*¹

The first time I tried a Vego bar was from a Vegan Cuts box. It was Vego’s iconic mini chocolate hazelnut bar, and after first bite, it was apparent why this is Europe’s favorite vegan chocolate bar. The chocolate melts in your mouth, and the hazelnuts add an earthy and buttery flavor alongside their crunch. The chocolate is made with hazelnut paste that adds a rich sweetness and creates a similar mouth feel to fudge.

Back in December, Vego had a social media campaign where they were looking for ambassadors. I threw my hat into the ring and just a few weeks ago received a surprise box of goodies to enjoy! I unveiled 4 Vego Crisp bars- my absolute FAVORITE of the lot, 2 Vego Hazelnut bars– which in the US are pretty much the equivalent to a king size candy bar, a mini Vego Hazelnut bar– which is the PERFECT size candy bar as there is nothing miniature about it, a Vego Dark Chocolate bar with Nuts & Berries– sweet, tangy, bitter, and slightly crunchy, a bag of Vegolino Pralines– individually wrapped nougat, Vego Melts- baking pieces and hot chocolate melts, and finally, the CRUNCHY version of a vegan Nutella, Vego Hazelnut Spread. I was SPOILED to say the least!

The Vego Crisp bar is my favorite! If you’ve been following me, you know Nestle Crunch was one of my favorite candies as a kid, so finding vegan varieties decades later is always a dream come true! The Vego Crisp bar is an improved dupe, as the chocolate includes their signature hazelnut paste that makes it super melty and flavorful, along with puffed rice that adds an airy crunch without impacting the “milk” chocolate taste.

Nutella is something I consider overhyped, but the crunchy spread by Vego is a different story- think melted ‘Ferrero Rocher’ you can dip marshmallows in! This stuff is rich, thick, sweet, and decadent (adding that to my vision board). I tried it traditionally on white bread, and as a dip on my s’mores candy-cuterie board. While I prefer as a dip, I am sure there are zero ways to incorrectly enjoy Vego Chocolate Hazelnut Spread.

The Vegolino Pralines come individually wrapped in a bag, making them giftable to one or many. Unlike the rest of the lot, these chocolate morsels contain no added crunch, and are a melty nougat that’s semi-sweet and perfect for mini moments of self-indulging.

Vego landed in the US in 2023, but it doesn’t seem to have been easier to locate them in person. If you are in the LA area, you can find Vego in stores like Erewhon and Besties Vegan Paradise, but for those of us in the 209, online shopping is currently our best bet.
