‘Tis the season for festive gatherings surrounding a table of food that is traditionally not vegan. Luckily we live in the year 2024 where not only are there endless recipes from plant-based creatives, but a plethora of ready to heat (or eat) vegan offerings in stores. I can even say I am lucky enough to have local vegan businesses to support this time of year, and for that I am so thankful.

I have compiled a detailed list of all the most common vegan roasts available, along with where we can order family meals, both from major chain stores and local businesses.

Read on for a list of over 20 vegan holiday roasts and meals that can be ordered/purchased within the Central Valley and its surrounding areas or ordered for delivery online. If you are not a local vegan, don’t fret! This is also a handy-dandy guide for roasts available for purchase in online retailers or many chain grocery store locations.

Note: If it’s your first holiday as a veg, know that there are 3 types of “roasts” on the market- holiday roasts that are a generic meat substitute, turkey inspired roasts, and ham inspired roasts. Please also know that we are so thankful you have decided to keep animals off your plate this holiday season. There is no greater gift.

Tofurky

Tofurky has been serving up roasts and keeping turkey off plates since 1995! It was my first-ever vegan holiday roast and is probably the most accessible across the country. They have a few choices for holiday dinners, no matter the size of your table.

Gardien

Gardein has been creating and refining delicious plant-based proteins for a quarter-century. Gardein is probably the second most accessible holiday roast on the market, as many stores now carry this product line.

Turk’y Roast with Gravy– We’ve filled our turk’y roast with a flavorful brown and wild rice, cranberry, and kale filling that not only serves up to 8 but also shines when sliced and tucked into your favorite sandwich or wrap. Field Roast

Founded in 1997 and combining European charcuterie with Asian mien ching traditions, Field Roast creates flavorful plant-based alternatives. They have the most sophisticated flavor profiles of all the roasts.

Vegetarian Plus

Vegan Whole Turkey with Stuffing and Gravy- A delicious centerpiece to any meal, not only for a wonderful addition to your holiday traditions! Our Vegan Whole Turkey even comes with vegan stuffing and vegan gravy. Easy to prepare and so delectable with a subtle flavor and an excellent texture that’s so close to real turkey, you might find yourself double checking to make sure the turkey is really plant-based. (18 servings $64.99-$105) They also sell a new version of this without stuffing and gravy.

Vegan Turkey Roll with Cranberry Glaze- Our Vegan Turkey Roll comes fully-cooked, is versatile enough to be used in anything from sandwiches to soups, or sliced and served as a hearty main course. Made with non-GMO Soy protein, it contains no cholesterol and has minimal grams of fat per serving. This special holiday package includes a vegan cinnaberry glaze. (6 servings $32.99)

Vegan Ham Roll with Spiced Plum and Apricot Glaze- Finally, a vegan ham that looks, tastes, and acts like real meat! Vegetarian Plus Vegan Ham and Turkey rolls can be found at Sprouts. The Whole Turkey, in addition to the Vegan Rolls, can also be found at Whole Foods stores and through online retailers such as ‘Vegan Essentials’ or ‘No Pig Neva’. (The closest Whole Foods Store location to the Central Valley area is located in Dublin, at 5200 Dublin Blvd, Dublin, CA 94568) Some of these may be at Modesto’s local Asian Market or SF Supermarket. Vegetarian Plus is found at many Asian groceries, so visit your local store or call them to check on inventory. Also, check local your Health Foods stores!

Sprouts Farmer’s Market

Skip the planning and prep and let Sprouts handle dinner. Sprouts Catering offers a Vegan Holiday Roast Meal for 2-3 people. This includes a Field Roast Celebration Roast and several Sporuts brand plant-based side dishes.

Vegan Holiday Roast Meal– Field Roast Celebration Plant-based Roast crafted with sage, garlic, and bread stuffing, served with porcini mushroom gravy. Fresh, wholesome, and vegan, seasonal sides: Plant-Based Sweet Potato Casserole, Plant-Based Cornbread Stuffing, Plant-Based Green Bean Casserole, and Cranberry Sauce. Trader Joe’s

Breaded Turkeyless Stuffed Roast with Gravy- Turkey may be the mascot of Thanksgiving, but it’s not going to be on everyone’s menu. That doesn’t mean that vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians, or even just folks who want to give this busy bird a break should be left out of the tradition. And so we proudly offer Trader Joe’s Breaded Turkey-less Stuffed Roast, a totally vegan, superbly savory, plant-based entreé that even comes with its own vegan gravy! Made mostly from wheat gluten, our vegan Roast is first stuffed with wild rice, cranberries, celery and onions. Then, our supplier coats it in a crisp, delicious breading seasoned with herbs and red pepper flakes, infusing each bite with terrifically tempting texture and taste. Simply heat it up, slice it into medallions, and serve with a side of steaming hot gravy, et voilà—a vegan holiday masterpiece is yours for the eating! Big Mountain Foods is woman & family-owned, and all products are free of the top-11 allergens. This is the first top-allergen-free roast on the market!

The Butcher’s Son is a vegan delicatessen in Berkeley, California. Their classic vegan holiday feast is now available for preorder, with plant-based versions of your favorite turkey day dishes.
