Vegan Oscar Mayer Wieners? It doesn’t get better than this.

140 years ago, Oscar Mayer was introduced to the US, and in March 2024, they partnered with NotCo of the Kraft Heinz Not Company and released plant-based versions of some longstanding favorites.

The CEO of Kraft Heinz Not Co is quoted as stating, “In launching the joint venture’s first product in the plant-based meat category, we saw an opportunity to satisfy [these] consumer cravings, leveraging NotCo’s revolutionary AI technology and the power, equity, and legacy of the Oscar Mayer brand.” As a refresher, NotCo uses the power of AI with its unique tool, Giuseppe. Giuseppe can combine data from thousands of plants and identify combinations to replicate animal products on a molecular level.

I was lucky enough to try NotCo X Oscar Mayer NotDogs on the first day at Expo West this year and was blown away! Did you know hot dogs were supposed to have a crispy coating on the outside for added bite? I sure didn’t, or at least I forgot. NotDogs are unlike ANY vegan hot dog on the market, and I am so happy to finally have them at home! The NotDogs are bun-length and can easily be heated on a stovetop, grill, or even a hot dog toaster! I tried mine both on the stovetop and in a hot dog toaster. Both methods produced tasty and crisp dogs that I devoured without question. Surprisingly, these are tasty naked but are even better dressed up with your favorite toppings. Next, I will definitely be making “weenie wheels” and adding coined NotDogs to some Kraft NotMac&Cheese.

Oscar Mayer and NotCo also collaborated to create NotSauages in Italian Style and Bratwurst. I tried the Italian Style on a bun with sauteed onion and peppers. The NotSausage is juicy and softer in comparison to the firm NotDog. The Italian Style flavor is peppery and light, but not at all spicy. I can see the Italian Style NotSausages being perfect paired with a pasta dish or with sliced potatoes and veggies (a great tinfoil meal if you’re going camping this weekend). I haven’t found the Bratwurst yet, but I am definitely intrigued and looking to find these ASAP!

With the 4th of July being next week, this is the perfect time for me to share these plant-based hot dogs! I found both the NotDogs and NotSausages at my local Safeway. The product is still rolling out in stores, so I am sure it will be at many other grocers soon. The Kraft Heinz Not Company has been killing it with their product releases, and I am looking forward to trying and seeing more from them in the future.
