“Party on with the Pink Dot!”- You know I’m in!
A vegan Doritos dupe that is also gluten-free and non-GMO- that’s what you get with “Chipz Happen” a family of dip chipz.
Chipz Happen offered to send me some chipz to try and I was immediately hooked. Not only do they come in a hot pink bag, but they are so tasty I can’t wait to get my hands on more. Chipz Happen is a woman-founded and family-owned company that offers 4 varieties of “San Diego Style” Tortilla Chipz. All the flavors are vegan and absolutely addicting. The chips are thin and crispy, offering an airy crunch that melts in your mouth. The four flavors currently available are: Himalayan Pink Salt, DaKine Chile Lime, Cheeze-ee Nacho, and Jalapeno Smokey Barbecue.
My favorite flavor of Chipz Happen is of course the Cheeze-ee Nacho. The flavor is a true match for the Doritos I remember eating as a kid- cheesy, tangy, and sweet with a slight heat, and reminiscent of a taco seasoning blend. I also loved the DaKine Chile Lime flavor. “DaKine” means “the kind” or “very good” originating in Hawaii, and the flavor reminds me of the Salsa Verde Doritos. The flavor is in the name, with a smokey heat from the chile and a sweet and tangy punch from the lime. It was recommended to pair this flavor with guacamole, which is a match made in heaven and even tames the heat. The Jalapeno Smokey Barbecue are surprisingly kind of cheesy, but mainly a powerful smokey heat with notes of sweet. While these are the “hottest” of the lot, none of the flavors are too spicy for me and my sissy palate. Lastly the Himalayan Pink Salt is a similar to a traditional tortilla chip in flavor and makes for a great dipping partner. I tried mine with guac, layer dip, and hummus.
Other vegan Doritos dupes I’ve tried have got the chip part wrong, mixing in things like quinoa and amaranth. Chipz Happen is a true tortilla chip, making it the perfect vessel for the vegan-friendly seasonings that make them irresistible and comparable. I can’t wait until Chipz Happen is available in stores near me because I need these pink bags on the regular. While they are not yet local, you can order Chipz Happen online at ChipzHappen.com or pick some up when traveling by referring to the store locator on their website.
Chipz Happen has plans to expand their product range in the future to include, salsa, hot sauce, and tortillas. I will be seeing them this week at Expo West which means they may even be in stores near us sooner rather than later!
Have you tried Chipz Happen? Which flavor is your go-to?
