VFC, but make it pink!
VFC, or Vegan Fried Chick*n, is a UK brand of tasty fried chicken alternatives that is making its way into US stores!
VFC‘s US tagline is: “Thanks Colonel we’ll take it from here”. Cofounder Matthew Glover stated in an interview for TheManual.com, “The U.S. gave the world KFC, and we want to give VFC back. We want to be like The Beatles and the Stones and bring this food across the pond.” VFC was created as a “sit-down protest”, but their marketing isn’t subtle. VFC uses in-your-face advertising as a form of rebellion against factory farming and is not shy about sharing its effects on animals and the planet.
I was lucky enough to score some VFC in a giveaway recently, so I thought I would taste and share my review! For my VFC prize, I received each of their frozen products: Original Recipe Vegan Fried Chick*n Fillets, Original Recipe Vegan Fried Chick*n Bites, and Original Recipe Vegan Fried Popcorn Chick*n! I opted to serve traditionally- American style- before later using VFC in various recipes like Chick*n Parmesan or Orange Chick*n. Behold my VFC Platter in all its glory! Instead of trying each on their own, I created a platter to share! A build-your-own-sandwich situation, complete with various forms of fried potatoes and dipping sauce.
Each version of VFC is incredibly satisfying and addicting. The chick*n is wheat protein coated in a southern cornflake breading that is amazing. The chick*n is meaty and tender, while the coating is crispy, crunchy, and salty. VFC tastes just like fried chicken because “It’s not the taste of chicken we object to. It’s the industrial farming, slaughterhouses, climate impact, pollution, forest destruction and loss of wildlife associated with it.” Whether in popcorn, bite, or fillet form, VFC is mouthwatering and crave-worthy. I am obsessed with the seasoned, flaky breading, and am already planning all the future ways I plan to enjoy VFC.
While I won my VFC, you can order online from retailers like GTFOitsVegan.com, or find at our local Raley’s stores!
