Smart Sweets Vegan Candy
Get ready to keep candy, but kick the sugar! I was gifted a box of Smart Sweets plant-based candy, and am so excited to share it with you!
In 2015 the founder of Smart Sweets was on a mission to out-sugar candy and began testing better-for-you versions of our childhood favorites. Flash-forward to 2022, and there are 9 varieties of Smart Sweets candy, and 7 of them are vegan-friendly (only the Gummy Bears and Gummy Worms are not vegan, but I have a feeling they will be modifying those recipes in the near future)! Smart Sweets is also gluten and nut-free, as well as female-founded.
Their newest creation has me flash-backed to the 90s before I knew what gelatin was and back when all I wanted to do was play Barbies. Cola Gummies were a staple of my youth, as not only were they tasty but a perfect fit for Barbie’s hands too. Smart Sweets now has a plant-based Cola Gummie that is a ringer for the flavor I remember, at only 3 grams of sugar a pack! Additionally, to make things easier, Smart Sweets candy is already portioned at one serving per bag (aside from party pack sizes and the resealable lollipop bag).
For sour-lovers, there is a dupe for Sour Patch Kids and Sour Patch Watermelon that will have you puckering without the sugar high. Smart Sweers Sour Blast Buddies and SourMelon Bites may be my favorites of the lot, as I am a Sour Patch fiend. I am loving the ability to curb my cravings with a candy that has a tenth of the sugar and even includes added plant-based fiber!
My first introduction to Smart Sweets was with their Peach Rings. I do not remember liking Peach Rings as a kid, but as an adult I enjoy them! Colored with fruit and vegetable juices to create the peach-colored stripes within the rings, they look and taste flavorful and familiar.
Sweet Fish and Red Twists are both berry-flavored candies that are chewy and tangy. While Swedish Fish and Red Vines have never really been a favorite of mine, Smart Sweets are a comparable and satisfying alternative.
As for the lollipops, who doesn’t love a sucker? While the watermelon flavor is pretty pink, my favorite of the two is blue raspberry. I like the touch of tartness that it adds, which I think makes me #TeamSour!
