Plant-based food brand Morningstar Farms is breaking the internet with their new Incogmeato® Chik’n and Eggo® Liège Style Waffle Sandwiches. Morningstar Farms has been on a veg mission for over 48 years and this sandwich is the latest addition to their Incogmeato line- “the next generation of plant-based protein that looks, cooks, and tastes like meat.”
I was immediately intrigued when I heard there was going to be a new vegan breakfast sandwich made with an Eggo brand waffle. Eggos are a classic frozen breakfast staple that most of us grew up with pre-veg. Now that Kellogg’s is planning an entire plant-based food conglomerate, I am sure we can anticipate even more vegan-friendly versions of our past favorites in the near future. This is an exciting start!
The new Chik’n and Eggo® Sandwiches currently come two to a pack and are 21g of protein per sandwich! The waffle is “Liège-style” which is a Belgian waffle made of a thicker batter, has uneven edges, and bursts of clustered pearl sugar speckled throughout. The waffle’s sweet sugar clusters in contrast with the salty and lightly spiced chik’n patty make for a surprisingly balanced sandwich. I tried my sandwiches on their own, with maple syrup, and with hot sauce. Alone they are a balanced and tasty sandwich that can be eaten any time of day. However, with the addition of syrup or hot sauce, the sweet or savory flavors become elevated for a different tasting experience.
I am super impressed with Morningstar Farms Incogmeato® Chik’n and Eggo® Liège Style Waffle Sandwiches. These will definitely be a freezer staple going forward! I found my sandwiches at my nearby Save Mart, but by the end of the year, they should be available nationwide.
Have you spotted this new sandwich sensation in stores? If you see their new pancakes-on-a-stick please let me know. I am on the lookout to try those next!
