Pork Yeah, it’s Plants!
Hooray sports! Rumor has it, an important sporting event is on the calendar so I thought it was the perfect time to whip up some hearty grab-n-snack apps. I used CHi Foods Organic Plant-Based Pork to make sharable mini street tacos, flatbread pizza, and lettuce cups.
I used all three varieties of the ground CHi Foods Organic Plant-Based Pork– Original, Italian Herb, and CHi-Rizo. All flavors are organic, top 9 allergen-free (no soy or gluten!), and packed with protein from the perennial “Chi Nut”. The chi nut is sourced ethically, uses regenerative agriculture, and has 4x the protein of macadamia nuts. This was my first time hearing of the mighty chi nut, and I am pleased with the introduction!
CHi Foods Organic Plant-Based Pork makes for quick prep. Once defrosted, you can heat and eat in under 5 minutes! I pan-fried the Original ground and CHi-Rizo with chopped onion and garlic. I wanted the flavor of the plant-based pork to shine on its own so I kept it simple. Once the Original was heated through and a little crispy, I used it to fill romaine lettuce cups and topped them with slices of sweet bell pepper and chives. When the CHi-Rizo was prepared I tossed with Daiya brand dairy-free shredded cheddar cheese (to give a headstart on melting) and loaded up mini corn tortillas before frying. Lastly, I pan-fried the Italian Herb grounds alone, then used to heavily top my flatbread pizza before reheating in the oven to melt the dairy-free cheese.
The grounds are satisfying, tasty, and filling. I was a big fan of the CHi-Rizo street tacos with the mild kick of chipotle spice. However, the Original CHi pork seasoned with just onion and garlic was delicious. The flavor is great on its own but I can see it being elevated by simmering in a sauce. I enjoyed all of the CHi grounds as they are “meaty” without being overly fatty or salty. CHi is best when served hot and fresh, as the plant-based pork is plump and juicy. I noticed when it cools, that the texture changes a bit so serve fresh for that “wow” factor.

Which CHi Foods Plant-Based Pork flavor would you grab first?

Hi – do you think it would work as a meatball? Like would it stick together or is it too crumbly? Would it work better with a binder like ground flax seed?
Hi there! Yes! You will for sure need a binder, but Chi Foods actually has a “Chi Ball” recipe on their site! https://chifoods.com/blogs/recipes/spaghetti-chi-balls
