Today Taco Bell unveiled its newest certified all-vegan menu item at ALL locations nationwide. Sure, they’ve previously launched plant-based meats and even a fully vegan Crunchwrap in test markets, but this is the first vegan release that can be found at any Taco Bell, and only for a *limited time* This wonder is: Nacho Fries WITH Vegan Nacho Sauce.
Yes, Taco Bell’s Nacho Fries sans the Cheese Sauce is vegan, but NOW we too can enjoy the superior experience of Nacho Fries WITH Vegan Nacho Sauce. TRUST. This is the way Taco Bell’s Nacho Fries were meant to be enjoyed- dipped and smothered in glorious vegan cheese sauce. It’s sticky, it’s oooey, it’s gooey, it’s slightly spicy for that queso representation, and the best part? You can order this sauce ON IT’S OWN and use it however you wish. Want a cheesy vegan Potato Taco? A layer of vegan cheese sauce on your Crunchwrap? A cheesy topping for your Veggie Power Bowl? Add a cup and it’s done.
If you’ve not yet tried the Taco Bell Nacho Fries, you are in for a treat. These fries are soft and airy on the inside, with a crunchy exterior, and the seasoning is a ringer for original Doritos. The seasoning is a “bold blend of Mexican spices”, that offers a balance of cheesy, salty, sweet, and slightly peppery heat. Along with the new Vegan Nacho Sauce pairing, Taco Bell is testing a large-size option for the fries. Go big or go home!
I paired my Vegan Nacho Fries and Vegan Nacho Sauce with a Black Bean Chalupa Supreme (no sour cream or cheese), Black Bean Crunchwrap Supreme (no cheese or sour cream), Crunchy Taco Supreme (no cheese or sour cream, sub beans for beef), Cinnamon Twists, and a Frozen Mountain Dew Baja Blast. In addition to dipping my fries in the Vegan Nacho Cheese Sauce, I layered some on my Crunchy Taco and it is my new favorite combo! Would recommend again and again!
Ordering Vegan at Taco Bell is super simple, and it is definitely one of the best fast food options for plant-based diners. Taco Bell used to encourage us to use the phrase “make it fresco”- meaning to remove dairy options like sour cream and cheese, but they no longer promote this. I can understand why, as the last time I tried to “make it fresco” in the drive-thru they thought I was asking for agua frescas (that they don’t sell). So now you will have to ask for omissions and substitutions the old-fashioned way- by saying it. This is easy though, as you can substitute beans or potatoes for meat, and just omit things that contain dairy like sour cream, cheese, cheese sauce, or chipotle sauce. Want to avoid the in-person ordering experience? Use the Taco Bell app, it makes subs and customizations uncomplicated. You can then pick up at the counter inside, or via the drive-thru (my preferred method).
Not sure where to start with ordering? I have linked some helpful guides below from Taco Bell, VegNews, and Vegg:
Taco Bell defines “vegan” as recipes that contain no animal ingredients. It’s important to note, however, that in some restaurants we use the same frying oil to prepare menu items that may or may not contain animal ingredients. Also, we cannot guarantee that cross-contact with meat products will not occur. Neither Taco Bell, our employees, nor our franchisees assume any responsibility for such cross-contact. –TacoBell.com
