Plants give us protein, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want tasty snacks, same as omnivores!
Becoming vegan I didn’t have access to vegan jerky at the local drug store or supermarket. It took a special trip to the health food store outside of town, and it was slim pickins! In 2021, we have a big brand doling out plant-based jerky at a RITE AID, like it’s no big deal. IT IS A HUGE DEAL! Thank our lucky stars we have plant-based jerky that is #Kraveable and within our grasp.
Rooted in Sonoma, California, Krave has been the forefront of jerky since its debut in 2009. All of their varieties are gluten-free, and with the new year, they’ve added a new line of Plant-Based jerky for vegans and plant-curious alike.
Two Flavors have been released in their plant-based line so far; Korean BBQ and Smoked Chipotle. I tired Korean BBQ! The flavor is salty and smoky. The texture is definitely typical of jerky, but isn’t too tough that I couldn’t enjoy it with my sensitive teeth. Packed with protein, this is the perfect post-workout or game-day snack!
I asked my nephew, who is a regular jerky consumer, to try this out and give me his feedback. He said it tastes the most like real meat, out of all the vegan jerkies I’ve given him to taste-test. For meat-eaters going plant-based, this may be the jerky solution for you!
I found the Krave Korean BBQ Plant Based Jerky at my local Rite Aid, but there is a Smoked Chipotle flavor that I am looking to get into my mouth sometime soon. Holler if you spot it!
