V.E.A.T.S Vegan Eats and Treats from the Streets
Happy New Year! I rang in the first day of 2022, with a personal “Hangover Plate” and dessert to share from VEATS.
If you aren’t familiar, VEATS is a local vegan catering and food service located here in the 209! VEATS stands for “Vegan Eats And Treats from the Streets”, and they are on a mission to “feed your soul”. For New Year’s Eve, they offered a selection of prepared and even take ‘n’ bake items including the Hangover Plate and ‘Nana Foster’s Puddin’ that I purchased.
I can attest that I was blown away by the attention and flavor that was given to each dish, and truly feel VEATS fueled my appetite and soul. The Hangover Plate was a combination of the following: Triple Double Mak ‘n’ Cheeze, Black Eyed Peas and Greens, Pulled Jackfruit, and Cornbread. The Mak ‘n’ Cheeze was my absolute favorite thing on the plate, and is something I wish we could find frozen on store shelves because everyone needs to try this! It’s creamy and smoky, made with their own “cheeze sauce”, and shredded vegan mozzarella and cheddar. The Black Eyed Peas were made traditionally with greens, bell pepper, and plant-based sausage. Black-eyed peas are a symbol of good luck going into the new year, and leafy greens symbolize wealth and prosperity. The pulled jackfruit was mouthwatering, meaty, sweet, and peppery, and the cornbread was soft, moist, buttery, and lightly sweet. I found everything on the plate complimented each other and although I was full, left me wanting more.
I opted for a half-sheet pan of VEATS ‘Nana Foster’s Puddin’ so I could share. Let me say, this pan was LOADED! Banana pudding made from scratch is encompassed in crushed and whole vegan vanilla wafers, sliced banana, and topped with coconut whipped cream and their own Nana Foster’s sauce, which is caramelly and sweet. The pudding was thick and creamy and the whipped topping was soft and fluffy. The pudding was a hit, and all who shared some cleared their plate!
