When is the last time you ate something that made you say “wow”? For me it was just now, as I was polishing off my second dish from the newest vegan hot-spot in Modesto: El Vegetariano Taco Truck
Traditional Mexican Cusine such as; Tacos “Al Pastor”, “Birria”, Pozole, and “Carne Asada” grace the bulk of their menu, while surprises like Teriyaki Chicken, and Cesar Salad made with Gardein fill in the rest. Every Combo features a different side and salad mash-up. Everything on their menu is vegan, and they have vegetarian options (but none that are not also vegan listed at this time).
I ordered dinner for the family, and an entree for myself for lunch tomorrow, so you will see more than one delicious entree pictured. The Spanish language and traditional mexican cuisine are not my forte, so please bear with me as I explore all this new fare within delivery range! For dinner, I tried the Tacos dorados de Papa (Fried Potato Tacos), and Combination #4 – Fried Boca Chicken (Pollo empanizado Marca Boca). For lunch tomorrow, I have their best-seller: Combination #1- Beyond Meat Asada (Carne Asada marca Beyond Meat).
The Potato Tacos are my absolute favorite thing on the planet, and I think I will dream about them. Paired with a chili dipping salsa, and a spiced plant-based creama (I think jalepaneo), they are perfection with our without the added heat. This is a definite reorder, and staple item!
Combo Number 4 seemed a little different than the other menu plates. Fried and sliced Boca Chicken, over a bed of seasoned quinoa (that I did not even wish was rice!), steamed vegetables, and a Super Salad with a side of tortilla chips and sauces. The side-salads are a mix of crunchy greens, shaved vegetables, and creamy dressing, tossed with either beans or craisins to touch on the sweet or savory. If every salad tasted like these, I would definitely eat them more often. I may even order a salad entree next time, since these were so phenom!
Combo #1 is a great place to start for those unfamiliar with plant-based meat. Beyond Meat is seasoned and served over white rice with corn, a side of steamed vegetables, and a vegan take on a cesar salad. I took a bite (or three) just to taste-test it before lunch tomorrow, and I totally understand why this is their #1 seller.
Everyone was impressed with their entrees, and I think Taco Thursdays is a newfound tradition in my household. The stewed/refried beans can be eaten by the spoonful, but I prefer the tortilla chip as my gateway. How are they so creamy?! What is this sorcery!? Pictured but not consumed by myself; Combination #2 and #5, and the Tacos Beyond Meat Asada (only $2.50- WOW!).
While El Vegetariano Taco Truck is in the new opening phases, delivery orders are for next-day, while pick-up orders can be arranged same-day, via message to coodrinate time.
